Our Center

Shaolin Life, founded 2006 by Monks from Shaolin Monastery (Henan Province, China) is a secular cultural program under the Deep Root Center for Spiritual Studies that has a mission to preserve and continue the 1,500-year-old tradition of Shaolin. Historically the Shaolin Temple was enriched by the people and masters of it’s community. Being enriched by the progressive flow of the bay The Foundation evolved and expanded its view, teachers and mission. Shaolin Life focuses its effort bringing inner awareness and enlightenment studies through arts such as Kung Fu, Qi Gong Tai Chi, and Meditation.

Executive Director
Sheldon Callahan

Sheldon’s study of the Shaolin martial arts began over 20 years ago. Sheldon was trained directly from Shaolin Monks and Martial Masters in both northern and southern styles of Kung Fu, Qi Gong, Tai Chi as well as gymnastics. Sheldon was Named Exec. Dir. for his forward looking vision, understanding of the art and culture and many years of hard work and dedication.

Assistant Instructor
Koren Pilkinton

Koren holds and degree in Kinesiology for rehabilitation, as well as sport and exercise. She works with youth and has trained in martial arts including Shaolin Kung Fu and Tae Kwan Do. She now leads the martial fitness program for children with Shaolin Life.

Kelli Pilkinton

Kelli Pilkinton A life long meditator, Kelli has been trained in various ancient meditation techniques. A native of the East Bay she is a community leader who has launched many programs and events. She now leads community meditation at the Shaolin Life.
